Privacy, safety & trust

Pursuit connects you with a small number of real people nearby to pursue a shared goal — and that means meeting in person. Here is exactly what we collect, how matching works, and what to do when something feels off. Plain language, no legalese padding.

01

What we collect and why

When you sign up and finish onboarding, we store:

  • Account info — your email address and a password managed by our authentication provider (we never see your password).
  • Profile basics — display name, a short bio, the community you entered through, and your goal.
  • Location at metro level — a city/metro (for example "Kansas City, MO") and a search radius. We do not collect or track GPS coordinates, precise addresses, or background location.
  • Availability — the general time slots you say you can meet.
  • Hobbies and preferences — your tags, weekend style, partner style, planning style and experience level.
  • Activity in the app — connections, shared plans, check-ins, messages with your partner, group posts and activities.

This data is used to connect you with people and groups pursuing the same thing, and to run the features you use (plans, check-ins, chat). We do not sell your data, we do not run ad targeting on it, and we do not share your profile with third parties for marketing.

Other members can see your display name, bio, goal, metro, tags and availability. Your email address is never shown to other members. Messages and check-ins are visible only to you and the partner in that connection; group posts are visible to members of that group.

Want your account and data deleted? Email safety@joinpursuit.app and we will remove it.

Meeting in person — read this one

Pursuit is built to move goals into the real world: coffee, a 6am run, a Sunday check-in, a group workshop. Members are real people who have not been background checked or identity verified. Treat a first meetup the way you would meeting any stranger from the internet.

  • Meet in a public place for the first few times — a cafe, gym, park, church, coworking space.
  • Tell a friend or family member where you're going, who with, and when you expect to be back.
  • Arrange your own transportation and keep your phone charged.
  • Keep your home address, workplace and financial details to yourself early on.
  • Trust your instincts. You are never obligated to go, stay, or explain yourself. Leaving early is always allowed.
  • Never send money, invest, or sign anything based on someone you met here — this is especially true for founder and investing goals.
  • If you are in immediate danger, call 911 (or your local emergency number) first.

03

Reporting and blocking

Every person you see in the app — a match, a partner, a group member — has Report and Block controls on their card.

  • Block takes effect immediately: that person stops appearing in your matches, and you won't be matched with them again.
  • Report lets you pick a reason (harassment, felt unsafe in person, spam, fake profile, something else) and add details. The report is stored for our team and reviewed by a human. Reports are never shown to the person you reported.

Serious reports can end in a removed connection, a suspended account, or a permanent ban. We would rather over-react to a safety report than under-react.

You can also report someone by email at safety@joinpursuit.app — include names and dates if you can.

04

Community guidelines

  • Be respectful. Pursuing something together only works on mutual respect. Encourage, don't shame.
  • No harassment. No slurs, threats, sexual advances, intimidation, or repeated contact after someone disengages.
  • This is not a dating app. Romantic or sexual pursuit of a partner who didn't invite it is a reportable violation.
  • Show up or say so. Cancelling is fine; ghosting a committed plan repeatedly is not.
  • Be honest. Real name or the name you go by, a real goal, and real check-ins.
  • No selling. No MLM recruitment, solicitation, fundraising or spam in matches or groups.
  • Respect privacy. What your partner shares in check-ins and chat stays between you.

Contact for safety concerns

Safety concerns, harassment reports, account deletion and privacy questions all go to a human:

safety@joinpursuit.app

We aim to respond within one business day during the Kansas City soft launch. For emergencies, contact local emergency services first — then tell us so we can act on the account.
